ᐅ Is it Worth Keeping a Construction Blog?

Good evening! 🙂

Right now, our excitement is growing (construction starting spring ’17), and I’m reading more and more building blogs. They are invaluable to us since none of our friends or family have built a house. Since I also enjoy writing, we are considering starting a building blog ourselves.

We’re now debating whether or not to do it. Some homebuilders do it to share experiences. Others even have sponsors and apparently a good number of visitors. A little extra side income (in various forms) never hurts—if you get that far.

My current thoughts are: time commitment, exchange of information, how jealous friends or acquaintances might react when they find us, is it worth it, and so on.

If we were sitting together now at the regular meeting, what would your answer be? 🙂

Our blog is hosted on Blogspot.

If you’re interested, I’m happy to share the address via private message (since it’s a link).

You can set it as your homepage here, so not everyone has to ask for it ;-)

Hello,

we have also kept a construction blog from the very beginning and have documented everything in detail there, even well beyond moving in, up to the present time (over a year later).

For me, the construction blog is a nice memory of the building phase, and I often check back to see how this or that went and how things were “back then.”
I also started the blog to give something back to other future homeowners, because during the planning phase (and sometimes even now) I often read many construction blogs and benefited from them.

We never included any advertising on our blog and didn’t make any money from it.
That would have been too much effort during the already stressful building period!

What I always found sad was when nice construction blogs suddenly stopped being updated, and you never found out whether the person was ultimately satisfied with their house, or if they might have wanted to change something afterward. These are not unimportant aspects for future homeowners; in fact, these are probably the details that matter most.

By the way, I use Google’s Blogger and am very happy with it.
It’s free, easy to use, and offers plenty of features 🙂
