Good evening! 🙂

Right now, our excitement is growing (construction starting spring ’17), and I’m reading more and more building blogs. They are invaluable to us since none of our friends or family have built a house. Since I also enjoy writing, we are considering starting a building blog ourselves.

We’re now debating whether or not to do it. Some homebuilders do it to share experiences. Others even have sponsors and apparently a good number of visitors. A little extra side income (in various forms) never hurts—if you get that far.

My current thoughts are: time commitment, exchange of information, how jealous friends or acquaintances might react when they find us, is it worth it, and so on.

If we were sitting together now at the regular meeting, what would your answer be? 🙂

Side job? It’s probably more work to attract sponsors than the income you earn.
The big advantage is that you have documentation—you forget so much after all 😉
Also, you can mention the existence of the blog to the building insurer—this can act as leverage 🙂

Best regards

It depends. If you feel like it, go for it, but not because you want to make money. You would have to invest a lot of work and time, and it definitely wouldn’t be worth it. It’s better to put more personal effort into the house ;-)

But as documentation, it’s definitely a great idea. I’m considering it myself. You could also ask some other bloggers how they feel about it after they started. There are also quite a few abandoned construction blogs ;-)

@jaeger: The many abandoned blogs also say a lot. It’s actually a pity. In recent days, we have read some useful tips from two good blogs and noted them down immediately. Some of them are quite practical.

I created my blog for friends and family who enjoy reading it. I use Tumblr, which allows me to publish posts quickly and easily directly from my smartphone.

The address is in the profile.

Just give it a try and see if you stick with it or not. By the time you ask your question here, you’ve already written your first post. :-)
