Hello everyone,

From our floor plan, it turns out that a beam must run directly above our patio door (lift-and-slide door) to support the interior wall of the children's room above (see image; the dashed line is supposed to represent the beam; where the patio door currently is, a 3-meter (10 feet) sliding door, 2.26 meters (7.4 feet) high, is planned).

Two-story single-family house with dark flat roof, pergola terrace, windows and garden.

I understand that this needs to be calculated by a structural engineer. What I want to know is whether this is generally possible and if an integrated roller shutter box can be installed here. From what I saw on some construction sites of other shell structures yesterday, there is a window lintel directly above the window opening that extends down to the underside of the upper floor concrete slab. Where would the roller shutter box go in that case? And where could the beam be placed additionally? It would have to rest on the window lintel.

Is my floor plan even feasible?

As long as you have not purchased a storey height increase, I don’t see any way to install a built-on roller shutter box, except if mounted on the outside. Your sales representative should have informed you about this; it’s standard procedure... even for junior sales staff.

Perhaps a flush ceiling beam could be an option – this way, there is no "beam" protruding from the ceiling.

Good luck
