At the specialist dealer in Säckingen, I bought a mirrored cabinet for the new bathroom. The salesperson said nothing about the electrical protection rating. When everything was finished, the electrician checked the whole installation: the mirrored cabinet with lighting, which is installed within 60cm (24 inches) of the bathtub, must have a protection rating of at least IPx4. There was no indication from the manufacturer online about the protection rating! After asking, I received the disappointing response: the protection rating is insufficient. 😡

Both the manufacturer and the dealer reject any responsibility – and now I have a mirrored cabinet where I have to disconnect the electrical supply myself. Neither the manufacturer nor the dealer respond to my complaint. What rights does a buyer have in this situation? Does the seller have to take the cabinet back? For example, other cabinets are all certified with IP24 and therefore suitable for use anywhere in the bathroom.

Since the cabinet cost over 700 EUR, this is not a department store product, and one would expect a certain minimum quality.
