Hello,

Our new single-family house was plastered a few months ago. A rough render was applied. I thought the workmanship was really excellent. Unfortunately, the craftsmen from the following trades left damage on the plaster in the form of dents and scratches.
The stairwell was affected the most. The painter has now repaired these spots, but it looks like the texture of the plaster was not restored and instead smoothed over. Now these areas are very visible. I am not happy with that at all.

Does this count as a defect? Is it possible to restore the original plaster texture?

Of course it can. The damaged areas need to be thoroughly scraped off and then re-plastered with the originally used rough plaster (not with Rotband or similar products), textured with a grain size matching the existing surface. The painter is not a plasterer, and for him, repairing usually means smoothing over with filler. However, if he cannot fix the damage himself, a plasterer must do it, and the painter should cover the cost.

If he were to break a glass pane, simply smoothing over would not be sufficient either, and a different trade would have to repair the damage—of course at his expense.

Best regards
