Hello,

how did you finish the wall surfaces in your bathroom that are not tiled? Did you use wallpaper or a special plaster, smooth or textured? What is best suited for bathrooms?

So, you can't just pick a color at random!
Long wall, short wall? Light tiles, dark tiles? Floor color? Large bright room, large dark room? Small bright room, small dark room? Accent desired? Consistent tone?
Maybe something different from the rest?

A bit of courage or would you prefer a safe grey? That would be mouse grey 😀

That much freedom? Then go ahead and let yourself go. A naked mermaid on the wall, skulls and bones in the corner. Barbed wire toilet seat. A rubber spider in the corner. An ashtray, beer can holder next to the toilet paper roll...

Hello,

We have lime-cement plaster in our bathrooms. Our construction manager recommends applying a lime skim coat over it, and then either painting or wallpapering right away. Has anyone had experience with this?

Best regards,

Sabine, bathrooms in single-family homes are not true wet rooms, unlike swimming pools, for example. Therefore, I believe it is professionally sufficient to smooth the cement-lime plaster with a standard filler; we used Sto fill. Whether you then apply wallpaper or paint directly is a matter of personal preference. For the ceiling coating, I would definitely use a latex-based paint (for example, Sto opticryl). Since the bucket is open, paint the walls as well. Why? Especially above the shower and bathtub, steam does rise and condenses on the ceiling. This causes mold growth. Latex paint acts as a barrier. Moisture does not penetrate the underlying material. It is as impermeable as lacquer. Karsten

Plaster technique using Creativ Sentimento by Brillux. A wax layer applied on top. Previously, the walls and ceilings were covered with this thin painter’s fleece wallpaper. For wall tiles, we used Venis Ruggine Platino 33 x 100 cm (13 x 39 inches).
