What did you choose?
Is smoothed Q2 enough to just paint over?
Or do you need smoothed Q3?
We don't really like a textured finish.

fach1werk18 Jul 2018 08:10Q3 is just one more layer. Anyone who needs to sand significantly at this stage simply doesn’t have the skill and would have to sand after every layer. The key is to scrape sharply, basically with every layer, and that’s enough. Q4 is extreme; it’s not necessary here, and that’s where sanding is common.
Regardless of the level designation, applying filler requires practice and enough strength to handle a longer trowel so it goes quickly. Those who have that will be fast and effective.

Then they started spot-filling, which made it look uneven because the surfaces were different.
In the end, my husband filled and sanded everything by hand (without a machine), primed, and painted it, and the result is closer to Q4. It looks really good! We definitely wouldn’t have been happy with the other finish.
