ᐅ Interaction between Robotic Lawn Mowers and Irrigation Controllers

Hi everyone,

Since there are some irrigation experts here, I’m optimistic that my "problem" will be solved.

I’m currently wondering how to perfectly coordinate my robotic lawn mower with the irrigation controller.

I’m using a Bosch Indego S+ 400, and on my desk, I have a Hydrawise Pro HC controller. With the Bosch Indego, I can set specific time windows during which mowing is allowed based on weather data. How does this work with Hydrawise?

In my opinion, there are several options:
1. Watering in the morning – mowing in the evening
+ Morning watering is, according to my research, optimal
- Evening mowing could be annoying for the neighbors (and us) on the terrace

2. Mowing at night – watering in the morning
+ Optimal timing for watering
+ Neighbors are not disturbed while sitting on the terrace
- Mowing at night is unfriendly to animals

3. Mowing in the morning – watering in the evening
+ No one gets disturbed
- Neither watering nor mowing is at the optimal time

What do you think? For mowing, a time window of about 4 hours should be set.

Best regards

Usually, it should be enough to have a 1-2 hour gap between the end of irrigation and the start of mowing. The lawn can still be damp; that doesn’t cause any issues for the mower.
Water early in the morning at around 4:30, and then mow from, for example, 8:00 onward. That’s how I do it, with irrigation ending around 6:00.

The mower is so quiet that it’s not a problem.
Irrigate in the early morning hours. Depending on how long your watering cycle is, start so that you finish by around 6:00.
It’s best to mow during the day when the kids, for example, are at school – so from about 8 or 9 a.m. Otherwise, mow in the evening. If your mower is sufficiently “overpowered,” you can also run it for shorter periods on weekends.

With Hydrawise, you simply set the days and times, similar to the robotic mower.

Thanks. That’s how I will set it up.

When I read the headline, I immediately pictured a robotic lawn mower being artistically lifted high by an extendable sprinkler, now standing like a sculpture on a post.

On the topic: If you have neighbors, it’s considerate to schedule any noisy activity during their waking hours. Even if it seems quiet to you, regularly hearing a motor noise through the bedroom on a Sunday morning would really annoy me as a neighbor.

Adjusting the timing and checking with the neighbors—that seems to be the best approach.
