Hello everyone,

we are planning a double garage (6 x 9 m (20 x 30 ft)) and considering intensive green roofing (meaning 40 cm (16 inches) of soil buildup) to grow vegetables, fruits, etc. Has anyone had experience with how much more the garage itself will cost (since it must support 500 kg (1100 lbs) per square meter, meaning a different structural design than standard) and what such green roofing roughly costs?

In general, I would also be interested in any experiences with this type of roof use. :-)

Best regards

Is the garage located in the basement or at garden level?
I ask only because I find it hard to imagine maintaining the vegetable garden (watering daily, weeding, etc., and regularly bringing compost soil onto the roof) if it can only be accessed through the house or by stairs.

It will be a standard garage with stairs leading upstairs and a water connection.

Then I would definitely avoid it for the reasons mentioned above!

Apart from the soil that occasionally needs to be placed on the roof and possibly waste that has to be removed downward, that’s basically it.
