Next to my house stands a basemented double garage. The basement contains the oil tank room and the heating room. The garden-facing rear side has aged over time; the paint is peeling and flaking, the base is no longer visible, the wall has cracks, and a door was added later, among other issues.
The area is approximately 6.5 meters (21 feet) wide and about 3 meters (10 feet) high. I am considering removing the loose paint remains, insulating the wall, and applying new plaster. The slate base created in the upper section is to be removed. After completing the work, an awning will be installed at this height.
My question is how and with which material should the wall be insulated? What thickness of material is recommended? Preferably non-combustible. Should it be attached by adhesive or mechanical fixings? Should a different type of insulation be used in the lower area, and if so, how far down toward the ground should it extend? Many questions. I would appreciate tips and material recommendations. Thank you.

Why do you want to insulate a garage?
Is the roof insulated?
If not, you can forget about insulating the facade as well.

Well, since the plaster isn’t in the best condition and needs repairs in many areas, the idea of insulation came up, especially as the rooms below might be used more effectively in the long term. Since the garage roof will also need to be replaced in about 1 to 2 years (at least new waterproof membranes), the question arises. Considering the small area of about 20 sqm (215 sq ft), the cost impact is not significant.
