Good morning,

My wife and I are currently in the preliminary planning stage for our meeting with the architect. We are considering installing a 270-degree fireplace in the living room. However, it looks like if we place the fireplace in the desired spot, the chimney flue will run through the bedroom. From experience, I know that in older houses, chimney flues can radiate a lot of heat. Since I prefer to sleep at 18°C (64°F) rather than at 25°C (77°F), I am curious whether this is still the case in new houses (Allkauf prefabricated house). If so, we would need to find an alternative location for the fireplace.

Thank you in advance.

Best regards,
Christopher

My father always raves about how well these units draft. He has one of the new retrofitted models himself, but he installed a stainless steel part on the outside. Of course, it isn’t insulated and has to warm up slowly before it can really handle the chimney draft. However, this only affects the first few minutes during the ignition phase. After that, it doesn’t matter anymore...

A piece of paper lit in the chimney flue, and that’s it...
