We are currently building a single-family house with an attached garage. Since the garage is at the basement level and the concrete ceiling is directly connected to the house, according to our architect, it must be insulated following the flat roof guidelines.
However, we have the following issue: according to the architect, a construction buildup of about 18cm (7 inches) is required here, but the screed inside measures only 13.5cm (5.3 inches). My question is: is it possible to achieve the same height here or maybe +1cm (0.4 inches)? We would prefer to have the same level between the interior and the terrace area.
Is it absolutely necessary to have a 4cm (1.6 inches) gravel bed and 4cm (1.6 inches) slabs, as stated in the flat roof guidelines? Could the insulation thickness be reduced to 6cm (2.4 inches) by using better insulation material?
How would you approach the buildup?
Current buildup:
Terrace slab 4cm (1.6 inches)
Gravel bed 4cm (1.6 inches)
2-layer bitumen 0.9cm (0.35 inches)
Thermal insulation WLG 024 8cm (3.1 inches)
Vapor barrier 0.4cm (0.16 inches)
Bitumen primer
Reinforced concrete ceiling 20cm (7.9 inches)
Underside insulation 5cm (2 inches)
As mentioned, I would like to reduce this to about 14cm (5.5 inches) while complying with the flat roof guidelines.
It is important to me to maintain a level surface; otherwise, there would be a step up from indoors to the terrace.
I would greatly appreciate an expert’s opinion on this and thank you in advance.
Best regards,
