Good morning,

we have just moved into a newly built house for the first time and are a bit unsure about how to install the lights. In our rooms, there is a long, thick black cable hanging from the ceiling, from which three thinner colored wires come out. Should we simply cut off the thick cable? How exactly should we handle the three small thin wires?

I’m attaching a picture for better understanding 😉

Thank you very much in advance!

Don't forget to turn off the power at the main distribution board before cutting!

Yes, that is the first thing we will do! 🙂

Attention! Do not simply cut it off, because you need the wires! Otherwise, I can only agree with @lastdrop: Let someone who knows what they’re doing handle it.

If heat or UV radiation is expected from the lamp, the now unprotected single wires must be covered with appropriate sleeves; otherwise, they will become brittle and crumble.

This may not happen within 5 years, but if the insulation crumbles away after 30 years, that's also a problem.

No, there shouldn’t be any heat generation there... but we probably won’t live here for long anyway, since we plan to build our own home 😉

That is certainly an argument...
