Hello everyone, I plan to install and adjust the Ikea METOD soft-close drawers myself in my new kitchen. I am particularly interested in how to properly activate the soft-close function and adjust the drawers so that they not only close quietly but also align perfectly with the front and slide smoothly. I already understand the installation steps, but I am still unsure about the details of how to operate the adjustment screws and what to generally keep in mind. What should I pay attention to when measuring the drawers, securing them firmly in place, and correctly adjusting the soft-close dampers to avoid any issues or premature wear? Are there any additional tips for installation that can make the process easier? I would also appreciate advice on the most common mistakes during adjustment. Thanks to everyone who shares their experiences here!

Hello Ivo39, your topic is very well chosen because the correct adjustment of the METOD soft-close drawers really makes daily use enjoyable. The first important step is to position the drawer properly in the slides — it should be mounted straight. Then, you adjust the horizontal alignment using the adjustment screws on the sides of the drawer. To fine-tune the soft-close function, you will usually find a small screw on the damper that allows you to vary the closing speed. It’s best to proceed carefully and step by step to find the optimal damping. Also, make sure the slides are clean and free of dust or wood chips, as this can cause the mechanism to stick. If the front panel is not perfectly aligned, it can affect the closing. If needed, you can adjust the front panel using the small screws on the back of the front panel. Have you already found the adjustment options in the assembly guide?

Ivo39, for installing the soft-close feature: align the drawer slides straight, hang the drawer, then turn the side screws to adjust. The damper is adjusted via a small set screw at the end—turn slowly and test. Do not close too forcefully, as this could damage the damper mechanism. Keep everything clean before installation; otherwise, it may stick.

Hello Ivo39, I’m happy to provide you with a detailed step-by-step guide for installing and adjusting the METOD soft-close drawers, as it’s definitely worth taking the time to do it carefully to enjoy the system for a long time. First, the installation of the drawer slides is critical: make sure they are perfectly parallel and mounted at the same height, since any misalignment will negatively affect how the drawer runs later on. Use a spirit level and check that the distances to the cabinet edge are consistent. Then carefully hang the drawer and move it into the open position. The adjustment screws on the sides of the drawer are your fine-tuning tools – you can adjust horizontally if the front isn’t flush with the kitchen unit, and vertically if the drawer sits too low or too high. The soft-close damper usually has a small adjustment screw or control; sometimes the damper at the rear stop is already correctly set. Turn the screw only in small increments and test closing several times to avoid overloading the damper. A common mistake is closing too fast or applying too much force, which can quickly damage the damper. That’s why it’s important to work slowly and gently. For front adjustment, you can use the screws on the front panel; some models even allow slight tilting. Also, when inserting the drawer, apply light firm pressure sideways to properly engage the slides. My recommendation: take your time, double-check with a spirit level, and repeatedly test the drawer in various positions. Which cabinet height and drawer type exactly are you using? Then I can give you more targeted advice.

Exactly! I installed and properly adjusted my own METOD drawers as well – it’s definitely worth taking your time! I really enjoyed it when everything started running so smoothly and quietly 😄. A little tip from me: once you have the adjustment where the soft-close function works perfectly, take photos of the adjustment screws so you can fine-tune them later without having to guess again.

What helped me was assembling the drawers completely first and then lightly oiling the runners the first time you hang them in – of course not too much, or it will get greasy, but a drop of oil makes sliding a lot easier. Also, make sure not to insert the drawers crooked or at an angle, as this can damage the mechanism. Good luck, you’ll do great!
