Hello fellow home builders,

we have started constructing a single-family house. The approved building permit / planning permission includes a gas heating system, which we still want to install.

There are two possible scenarios:

1. What happens if the heating system is installed in October 2023, but the house is only inspected and approved in February 2024?

2. What happens if the heating system is installed in January 2024, and the house is inspected and approved in May 2024?

Both options are difficult to plan for. So far, we do not know whether the construction schedule might be delayed.
I haven't found any information on this. Do you have any further details?

Regards,

As a woman who has given birth to two children, I would probably count myself among those who would reject that. I don’t think it’s something that can be described in words what you go through, but I would suggest that a man lacks the physiological prerequisites for the job. At least from my perspective as a birthing woman, not necessarily as a potential employer. For employers in this field, it is difficult to hire a man if pregnant women refuse his care.

For me, it’s less about the man potentially “seeing” something. There are male doctors and husbands present during birth, after all. It’s more about the fact that someone working in childbirth might not fully understand what they are dealing with. They lack the organs to be helpful or to properly assess some situations. Even a woman who has only menstruated would give me a better sense of reassurance.

I would have fewer concerns about a trans man, though. However, you cannot necessarily generalize from yourself to others.

Regarding the military topic, I completely agree with you. Often the argument is that women are not physiologically the same as men. Then there were demands that women in the military should be evaluated according to a different performance standard. And there were opposing voices saying that war does not take that into account. It’s a difficult issue.

Childcare is also challenging and, I think, depends greatly on the individuals involved. We live here in a remote village with about 1,000 residents, and at the kindergarten my son attends, there is a male caregiver who is appreciated and respected by everyone. I have never heard of any concerns about that. On the contrary, I think it would be good to have both genders represented in early childhood education. Everyone can only benefit from that.
