Hello,

Has anyone here installed vinyl flooring themselves, and if so, how did it go?

We want to install vinyl planks in our house and have already chosen them. I will contact the seller again soon, but I would be happy to read some personal experiences here!

Hmm... So we will have the vinyl flooring glued down now in the kitchen, dining room, and hallway. I’ve seen it done at friends’ houses where they also had vinyl glued down in a new build, and I really liked how it turned out. But my friends used vinyl tiles, not large sheets. For us, it will also be "tiles," but without the decorative grout lines in between. At my friends’ place, the vinyl has been down for two years now and nothing has come loose or lifted.

Our screed will first be sanded, filled, and primed, and then the vinyl planks will be glued on top.

Hello you two,

How satisfied are you now with your flooring? You’ve been living there for a while by now, right...?

Good luck

So far, I have no negative feedback. We still like the design, and the warmth felt underfoot is noticeably higher compared to the laminate flooring we had in the rental apartment. When exposed to sunlight, it even gets almost cozy warm.

What we definitely underestimated is the "initial smell" if you don’t ventilate. If the room is left unused and not aired out for two days, you can still clearly notice it. However, with regular use of the room, it is not noticeable. We covered two rooms and the hallway on the upper floor with this flooring and currently use one room only as temporary storage, which explains the different observations.

Overall, the floor here is not subjected to heavy wear, so we can’t say much about long-term durability. But our cats love to lie in the sun on it.

We installed it in our kitchen-living area.

The appearance is very attractive, and it’s quite easy to clean. Unfortunately, our floor expanded significantly. We had to trim it three times.

I haven’t been home for two weeks, but my guys are quite frustrated with the adjustments.
I plan to contact the seller as soon as I’m back home at the end of next week. Let’s see if we received a faulty batch or if this expansion behavior is normal.

According to the seller and the description, this should not have happened.

What dimensions (width and length) did you install? We managed fine with the required edge gap, despite direct sunlight. Did you store the panels openly at the installation site for a few days before fitting?

Some expansion is, of course, normal, but the combination of maximum area and edge gap should usually prevent that. Trimming at the edges is a real hassle.

An area of 45 m² (484 ft²) was covered. The supplier calculated this based on the floor plan.

The components were stored in the room for almost two weeks.
