Hello,

Has anyone here installed vinyl flooring themselves, and if so, how did it go?

We want to install vinyl planks in our house and have already chosen them. I will contact the seller again soon, but I would be happy to read some personal experiences here!

That's right – so either cut open or simply screw in.

Exactly. I had the problem that the finishing strip wasn’t there yet, the tiles were already laid, and the door frame was installed. It was really hard work to fit the strip underneath, bending it almost to the point of breaking. But only after I had knocked the entire floor to the other side of the room (expansion joint on the opposite wall set to zero) and cut a bit out again with the oscillating tool.

It definitely won’t work afterward like that.

I think simply screwing it on top afterward could be problematic. First, you would need large and long screws that would be quite visible. Second, I’m not sure how stable the screed will remain over time if you keep walking on the strip. I imagine the screws might come loose rather quickly. But that’s just my amateur opinion.

Bonding

But normally, I don't want that – it should also hold.

I also have glued trim strips that have lasted for at least 2 years. Besides, these days a lot of things on cars are glued as well, and it holds up.

Only glued to the flooring? Okay, that might actually work then.

Yes. The adhesive was already applied to the battens, but I had to cut them a bit and already noticed that it sticks like crazy.
