Hello everyone,

We have just received the first offer for the windows, and now I am considering whether we should order and install the motors for the roller shutters ourselves. With over 20 windows, the savings could be significant, especially since we are planning to use SMI motors.

However, I am unsure how much effort it takes to install a motor for the roller shutters. Is it a tricky job that is better left to professionals? Also, is it feasible in terms of the workflow for the installer to fit the windows and roller shutters (into the insulation, not the masonry) while we handle the motor installation ourselves?

Cheers

You can install all the roller shutters yourself. On one hand, no one will supply roller shutters without a motor, and on the other hand, you would have to remove them again to install the motor.

OK, thanks for the information. This is definitely helpful. Another alternative would be to list the windows and the roller shutters separately in the tender.

Installing venetian blinds yourself is not very complicated if you have some basic DIY skills. For each venetian blind, I believe I spent about 2-3 hours on installation, electrical connection, switch installation, and setup.

Good to know. We have a little over 20 venetian blinds, and if I calculate 3 hours per blind, that comes to 60 hours. I’ll keep this as a backup option, but time-wise, I probably won’t be able to manage it myself.

Hmm, but I also have someone who could install them for me. So now I need to check the cost of the venetian blinds and then I can compare that easily with the quotes from the window manufacturers. At least now I know what I can do and roughly how much time it will take. Thanks!
