As expected, we need a "roll-off protection" on the sleeping loft for our boys in order to pass the building inspection by the authorities. Does anyone have ideas on how to create this simply and attractively?

Attached is a photo from the early stages of construction, but you can still get a good impression of what the sleeping loft looks like. The headroom up there is about 1.80m (5 ft 11 in), the width is approximately 4.70m (15 ft 5 in), and access is via a centrally located removable ladder.

I can’t see it clearly, but would it be possible to tension 2-3 steel cables (like on the balcony)?

Otherwise: Milk glass / Plexiglas?

Barbed wire?

I would use a round timber, either like a thick curtain rod or pine logs. There is also the option of a climbing rope variant.
Maybe Ikea has something that could be repurposed.
Copper pipe as an industrial style option?

Thank you very much! I was starting to feel uninspired by all the things that happen towards the end of construction, but now I feel newly motivated. I’m going to go over there, take some measurements, and see what happens.

You can really install any type of railing you like. There are so many stylish stair designs... I wouldn’t want to clean glass though.

A protective net (fall protection) can also be used, for example in kindergartens. It can be custom ordered to size and is available in many colors (depending on the age of the children). The advantage over glass or acrylic (plexiglass) is that air circulation is better, which is beneficial under the roof.
