I’m new here and since we will be renovating an old house soon, I have a few questions beforehand.
Hopefully, I can find some answers here 😉
First, about the house...
It’s a semi-detached older house, the exact year of construction is unknown. To create enough space for our three children, we need to carry out some modifications. One of the children’s rooms will be located in the attic, right under the gable. The roof has been newly covered and fully insulated; only the interior cladding is still missing. We would like to install skylights there.
My question is, can we do this ourselves, or do we have to hire a roofer?
I’m wondering, how do I remove the roof tiles from the inside?
I hope someone can help me.
Best regards
Lotta

Hello Lotta!!
I’m not sure which type of bricks you have, but I guess maybe Bramac???
From the inside, probably nothing will happen; it has to be handled on the roof itself.
Now it depends on whether you feel confident enough to do it yourself, etc.
If you have some basic DIY skills, this kind of installation is actually quite simple but should not be underestimated.
Regards 😉

The craftsmanship isn’t the issue; I know several skilled tradespeople, including a few carpenters.
The bigger problem for me is getting onto the roof 😕
There is only a tiny window up there, which makes it impossible to climb out through...
So, you need a long ladder, right???
Regards, Lotta

Hello,
I wouldn’t hire a carpenter who can’t get onto the roof from the outside to install a skylight, and I would ask to see their journeyman certification. 🙂
Best regards,
Oliver D.
