Hello,

I have planned an in-wall network socket (Telegärtner) in the bathroom. Does it need to be installed in the wall before tiling? Theoretically, yes, because I have to screw it onto the flush-mounted box. But what if it breaks—how can I replace it then? Remove the tile?

The boxes should be installed exactly like electrical outlets, directly on the tile. To secure them, simply use longer screws. Although, having a network connection in the bathroom is quite unusual.

Alternatively, there are also box extenders.
If these are installed beforehand, the tiler won’t cut the hole too small.

What do you want to connect there?

Best regards, Andy

I don’t know yet, but installing a socket afterward would be the less favorable option.

The only practical use would be a web radio. And for that, Wi-Fi is sufficient. You’re hardly going to install a phone, server, or TV in the bathroom, are you?

Although, video on demand in the bathtub… hmm.

LCD TVs in mirrors already exist.

Maybe in the future, electric toothbrushes or razors will also need an update.
