Hello everyone,
we are about to complete the bathroom on the top floor of our new build. The pipes have already been installed going upwards. We have a laundry chute in that room. We would also like to install a shower, which would need to be positioned in a way that the laundry chute is integrated into it. Do you have any ideas on how to make the chute waterproof? Is this even possible?

Funny. I can only recommend all skeptics to give it a try. A laundry chute is one of the best features you can include. Costs are really manageable, benefits huge.

But you still have to carry the clean laundry back up.

Yes, but I have the big advantages I already mentioned.
I have even seen a laundry chute with vertical funnels/tubes designed to sort dark, light, and colored laundry properly from the top. That way, you don’t even need to sort it afterwards!

I wouldn’t want to carry it down several times a week. Especially not to a basement spread over two floors...

If you have a lot of laundry with children, the kids can happily help. Much more effective than a laundry chute 😉 It’s a feature that would be at the very very very bottom of my list, and I have never installed one for myself (or us).

Alternative laundry chute light: Design the stairwell opening large enough to throw laundry directly from the upper floor (UF) to the ground floor (GF)/basement (BS) with targeted throws 😎

With a top-loading washing machine, the laundry could go directly into the appliance...

Having a cleaning lady would have solved the whole issue...
