Nordisch1725 Jul 2017 11:44Hello everyone,
We are currently planning our new build without a basement but with a central controlled ventilation system. So far, I have done a lot of research online but have not yet spoken to any ventilation installers.
From what I understand, the supply air vents are supposed to be located near floor level. Since we are planning without a basement, the controlled ventilation system (e.g., Zehnder Q350 or similar) will have to be installed in the utility room. The question is how the supply air ducts, which come out of the unit upwards, reach the floor of the ground floor?
Do they first go up from the unit, then run inside a wall (or in front of it?) down into the floor slab of the ground floor, to then have their outlets near the floor at suitable locations in the living room and kitchen?
I find it difficult to visualize, and most brochures and descriptions online assume houses with basements.
I hope the question is clear and that someone may have solved a similar situation.
Thank you!

Nordisch1725 Jul 2017 12:44Thanks for the answers. What experience do you have with ceiling air outlets?
I imagine the air mixing might not be ideal, and it could cause drafts in the head area.
Whether the ducts should be installed in the screed or in the concrete seems to be somewhat of a contentious issue.

They are never installed within the screed.
The ducts either go into the unfinished ground floor slab (which requires more effort and must be structurally calculated) or they are placed on the unfinished ground floor underneath the screed.
It should also be possible to lay the main ducts on the ground floor slab in houses without basements. In that case, it’s advisable to consult with the ventilation installer.
