Good morning,

We are considering buying a house where the bathrooms were renovated about 10 years ago. However, for our needs, a shower is still missing, so we might replace the toilet in the guest bathroom with a shower. It doesn’t have to be a walk-in shower; a simple one with a glass shower screen would be fine.

Can you roughly estimate what this might cost?

A few months ago, we received an initial rough estimate from our plumber for converting a bathtub with an instantaneous water heater to a shower with a hot water connection. The estimate was between 3500 and 4000 euros, but realistically it will probably end up around 4500 to 5000 euros. This did not include the removal of the bathtub or the tiling work. I assume your project will require even more effort since you need to waterproof the walls and floor. In that case, it would amount to a complete renovation. Alternatively, you could install a prefabricated shower enclosure in front of the window and have the supply lines surface-mounted. We once had that setup in a holiday apartment, but it is far from elegant.
