We have been active readers here for almost a year and really appreciate how much discussion and support takes place.
Now it’s our turn, and we are thinking about how to design our rooms. Especially since the selections phase is coming up soon, we are wondering which colors go well together, which tiles and doors would look good, and what type of wood to use for the staircase.
We can already imagine a country-style look, as we will be moving to a village anyway.
Where do you get your ideas for planning? (Besides the home photos thread ) Are there any “golden rules”?
Thank you very much!

Pinterest is a great tool for gathering ideas, in my opinion. There are also many different color schemes available to use as a reference or for inspiration. For example, if you search for a country-style color scheme, you will find plenty of ideas. It’s also useful for DIY furniture projects.
I often use Google Image Search. For example, if I think a certain color would look nice in the bathroom, I enter that and look at the images to see if I really like it. Or if I think I might like a specific style (e.g., country house / Mediterranean / industrial...), I just enter that. Through the images, you then find all kinds of different websites.
First, clarify the land ownership and carefully review the applicable zoning or development plan. Getting inspired by pictures of dream homes that ultimately do not fit the plot or are not allowed there risks ending up with a house suited only for a “McMansion Hell” collection—that is, a house overly decorated with mismatched details (such as a Tuscan-style Bauhaus with a Frisian gable and a floating staircase). At least try to focus on achieving a harmonious overall impression, rather than adding an excess of details. Having a specific plot of land with its particular restrictions can help you sort out suggestions in a timely manner.
