Hello everyone,

We have been living in our wooden house since October 2018. Based on positive family experiences, we decided back then to install insect protection roller blinds.

Now the problem: since last autumn, there have been cluster flies living inside the roller shutter boxes, which then enter the rooms through the brush seal mounted above the insect protection roller blind. The brush was reinforced, but we noticed no difference.

In our view, this is a defect because the insect protection roller blind does not keep the insects out.

However, the house building company says that this problem has never occurred before, that the cluster flies apparently get in through every brush, and according to the applicable DIN standard, we have no legal chances.

Even after extensive research with specialist companies and online, I remain clueless, and the nightly buzzing causes me nausea.

What options do I still have? Has anyone had similar experiences or legal knowledge on this?

Please help me!!

At least did they mention the DIN standard? No matter! Whether with or without DIN, you want to get rid of those pests! I suggest contacting a local pest control professional. They can usually resolve the issue quickly and might have some substance or scent that prevents reinfestation. I believe this is effective, fast, and affordable.

This is the way it should be done, and not otherwise. The DIN standard will not help here; only expert advice is effective.

When looking for someone to blame, many have lost sight of the actual solution.
Do you want to get upset about the builder and the roller shutter, or focus on getting rid of the flies?

Thank you for your responses.
I’ve moved past getting upset or blaming others; I’m just focused on finding a solution. A pest control professional has been suggested several times, but my main hope is to properly seal the insect screen roller shutters. That’s really where my problem lies. In my opinion, poisoning the mosquitoes inside the roller shutter boxes is only a temporary fix. Do you think this measure will last longer than until next autumn? I’m really overwhelmed and don’t want to get upset or try to prove a point—I just want to sleep peacefully again.

The pest control professional will also have ideas for a permanent solution. If you feel disgusted, it is better to act quickly and decisively.
