ᐅ Induction cooktop with annoying continuous fan noise

I currently have two different induction cooktops here (one for 39 EUR and one for 59 EUR) and I’m shocked at how noisy both devices are... even on the lowest setting, the fan runs continuously... absolutely terrible.

My question is... can I save myself the trouble of searching further... are induction cooktops generally designed to have the fan running all the time? If so, I’d rather get a conventional hotplate.

What are your experiences?

Best regards, Steffi

Just quickly sear something in a heavy cast iron pot (200+ degrees Celsius / 392+ degrees Fahrenheit) and then touch the ceramic hob. 😉

The most common damage almost always occurs because the MOSFETs in the power section overheated. This is usually due to insufficient space left between the countertop cutout and the ventilation openings.

A quick follow-up on the original question: I also have two of these cooktops from different manufacturers, priced similarly, and the noise level is the same for both.

However, I have also cooked on the commercial version of this type of cooktop: the fan noise was significantly quieter, although still not as quiet as with an integrated cooktop. These units cost about ten times more.

Inexpensive stand-alone cooktops have the drawback of sometimes taking a very long time for the heat to effectively reach the pot. If you want to heat a 15-liter (4-gallon) pot of soup, you really need a lot of patience. For camping with larger groups (for tea or boiling water for pasta for 20 people), induction cooktops were a huge comfort improvement compared to gas or coil cooktops. In that setting, a bit of noise isn’t much of an issue. So, everything has its pros and cons...
