Hello everyone,

I am currently looking for suitable underlays for our building project. Since we've never used laminate flooring before, I wanted to ask what you have used so far.

We have laminate from the company Kronotex – Dynamic series. It will be installed over a water-based underfloor heating system on a screed floor, covering about 120m² (1,292 sq ft). According to the manufacturer, the laminate has a thermal resistance of 0.06 m²·K/W.

I have read a lot in this forum about Wineo Sound Protect ECO Profi SD and Parador Akustik Protect 300. Both have an integrated vapor barrier and a thermal resistance of 0.01 m²·K/W. The impact sound and footfall noise differ only minimally between the two options, about ±1% and ±1 dB. Both are also roughly comparable in price.

My question is, do you have recommendations for other manufacturers? For example, Haro? Although based on the datasheets, Haro’s values do not seem as good as those of Wineo and Parador.

Thank you very much.

Best regards,
Rene

We are currently looking for an impact sound insulation with an integrated vapor retarder. I also came across the manufacturer Ewifoam. Depending on the underlay you choose, their values can quite well compete with those of the manufacturers you mentioned, for example Universol Standard Aluminum, Universol Classic Aluminum, Universol Professional Aluminum, or Universol 1000 (here, walking and impact sound insulation is somewhat lower, but the thermal resistance is excellent at 0.006 and the underlay is very thin, which would suit us due to varying floor heights). In terms of price, Ewifoam is below Wineo and Parador. However, I have no idea if the manufacturer is “good.” Our flooring supplier recommended it to us, though.

We were also recommended Ewifoam and have ordered the Universol Professional Aluminium, which will arrive tomorrow.

As a small note: the lower the thermal resistance (R-value), the better. For example, 0.01m²K/W (0.06 ft²·°F·h/BTU) is top quality, while 0.06m²K/W (0.34 ft²·°F·h/BTU) is poor for underfloor heating...

Count the zeros. I am not talking about 0.06 m²K/W, but 0.006, which is less than 0.01 and is therefore an absolutely excellent value! I haven’t found any better one yet.
