Hello everyone,
a colleague installed my bathroom sink. During installation, he noticed that the threaded nipple for the overflow is too short, so the overflow hose cannot be attached with the included gasket. He simply left out the gasket and sealed it from behind with silicone. So far, so good. But: he installed the hose horizontally instead of vertically downwards. Now the water doesn’t drain properly through the overflow. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this or whether these silver "parts" for the overflow exist in a longer version? IKEA couldn’t really help me with this. At the hardware store, I didn’t see anything suitable at first glance. The sink is an IKEA Braviken. Has anyone had a similar problem? Also, the P-trap is installed somewhat oddly. Probably the pipe is too long, right?

I find it hard to believe that a fitting for a washbasin sold tens of thousands of times cannot be installed to be leak-proof. Are you sure the "colleague" (who installed a drain hose without a slope) is sufficiently experienced? Otherwise, the solution is clear: disconnect the hose and reinstall it with a proper slope to ensure the water drains correctly. If the hose is too long, there should be a suitable replacement available. These are standard dimensions.

The overall installation looks questionable.

What does the assembly manual say about it? (If there is one.)
The included materials should fit. Or were they purchased separately?

In a review, I read, "Sink okay, drain fitting of poor quality."
I can’t disagree with the latter and know why I avoid that supplier.

By the way, you can’t seal with silicone alone. So please use proper gaskets for the installation!

My acquaintance is a plumber. However, he was really struggling with the sealant, and I can confirm that. The thread was definitely too short. I had to rearrange the rest of the trap because of the drawer. But I still plan to modify and shorten the large bend.
I need to see if I can remove the overflow hose cleanly. It’s coated with silicone. If necessary, I will remove the hose and route it downward. Then I can try the seal again. If it still doesn’t work, I’ll have to apply silicone around it once more.

The flexible hose should be routed downward. The fastening, which can be screwed in, should also be positioned downward.

There are very poor plumbers out there... and your colleague is one of them.

By the way, there are installation videos available and even better systems from Ikea.

I need to see if I can easily remove the overflow hose. It’s coated with silicone. If necessary, I’ll remove the hose and route it downward. Then I can try the seal again. If it still doesn’t work, I’ll just apply silicone around it again.

The instructions clearly explain (even illustrated, see picture) how to install it. And again, leave out the silicone (even if it’s only the overflow).

You might need a space-saving trap because of the drawer!
