Hello,
Unfortunately, I can’t find any advanced help regarding the use of an Uppleva TV. We are specifically experiencing the issue that the TV darkens even further during dark scenes. We have disabled both the automatic brightness adjustment and the power-saving mode, and also installed the latest firmware.
During bright scenes, the TV displays vibrant and brilliant images. However, in dark scenes, it is clearly noticeable that the electronics dim the picture as if someone is turning down a dimmer switch. Because of this, it is impossible to watch a movie in daylight, and even in a darkened room, the image is barely visible in dark scenes (for example, in basement shots or typical vampire movie scenes).
It seems that the automatic brightness control is causing problems even though it is set to OFF.
Does anyone have any ideas?
A link to further information would also be appreciated—I haven’t found anything so far.
Thanks and best regards from Vienna,
Portuer

Hey... same problem here.
I’m also very surprised that there is no information available online about this =(.
Have you made any progress since then?
With the low price IKEA ended up offering, I would have expected more DIY enthusiasts to have gotten into this and maybe figured out something in the firmware. But there’s no hack or anything like that to be found here either. =(

Unfortunately, I have to say that IKEA support is the worst I have ever experienced in my life. At least from Austria. For over a month, I was repeatedly asked the same questions with waiting times of about 10 days each. Only after several attempts to call did I get redirected—through a long chain—to the German Uppleva support, who responded to almost all my concerns with, "Yes, we know, that's just how it is. The new Uppleva TV is better."
In the meantime, I have discovered myself that the picture setting "Vivid" provides a better image and that all special modes need to be turned off.
The recording function causes the device to crash when the TV is off, and the subwoofer keeps switching off and on by itself. Both the TV and the sound system are VERY slow to operate, and crashes have become a regular occurrence. Despite the low price, we are very frustrated because the annoyance far outweighs the price advantage. Only the design looks great and fits perfectly.
You would actually expect to receive the new version as a replacement device without any hassle. We would even be willing to pay extra.

IKEA-Experte27 Oct 2014 10:34If a device does not work as it should, this constitutes a defect, and under European law, you can make statutory warranty claims. Unfortunately, IKEA does not always seem willing to acknowledge this and often refers to goodwill even when it is not a matter of goodwill. Every customer should persistently insist on having the defects remedied. One issue with the statutory warranty, which always applies to the retailer, not the manufacturer, is the reversal of the burden of proof after 6 months.
I know, but Ikea’s goodwill consists of exchanging a faulty device for another faulty device, including the organizational hassle on our part. Personally, my time is too valuable for that. Of course, one could say "serves me right," but I have already spent many hours on calls, emails, and frustration. Ikea has won because it is not worth it to me, on principle, to pursue a test case or to arrange pick-up appointments, wait times, or whatever else.
Well.. I don’t watch TV anyway.. the device here is just a display for an HTPC.. so the other things don’t matter to me..
The brightness setting is just annoying..
I can easily live with the rest at this price..
And regarding IKEA support.. you can have the TV picked up at any time and claim your money back (in the form of a store credit).. I don’t understand what the problem is.. or why there is talk of lawsuits, etc..
I have never seen a store so accommodating with returns as IKEA..
