Barbara_49874 Jun 2013 11:06Hello forum, I have a problem with my Effektiv rolling cabinet... does anyone possibly have an idea how I could get hold of the assembly instructions? I have tried multiple times through the IKEA website but always get the standard message that the assembly instructions are available on the website. Unfortunately, this does not apply to the rolling cabinet, as I believe the Effektiv range was discontinued at the end of 2011.
Unfortunately, I bent the key for the rolling cabinet so badly that it no longer turns, and on the next attempt it will probably break off, meaning I will no longer be able to open or lock the cabinet. The local locksmith has already made me two replacement keys, but neither works (which is not surprising given the bent original key).
My idea now is to remove a lock from one of my other Effektiv office cabinets and install it in the rolling cabinet.
However, I have been unable to remove the lock from the rolling cabinet because I can’t even take out the drawers ;-(
So it would be great if someone still has the assembly instructions for the Effektiv rolling cabinet and could share them with me. Alternatively... maybe someone has had a similar problem and can tell me how to remove the lock from the rolling cabinet?
That would be very kind, and I’m hoping for your help, as I’m running out of ideas!
Best regards, Barbara_4987

Barbara_49871 Aug 2013 16:09That's always the problem… um, no… more like the challenge with IKEA.
But you should manage the assembly instructions well if you've ever put together a piece of IKEA furniture before. Just be especially careful with the rolling drawer units; those are always a bit tricky.
Just a tip!

IKEA-Experte26 Sep 2013 16:45Since there is probably no manual available, the only option might be to try to find a solution based on good photos. Do the drawers open, or are they locked?

IKEA-Freund27 Sep 2013 08:54First of all: unfortunately, I don’t have the corresponding container.
In an open effective filing cabinet for hanging files, the drawers are hooked and locked into the rails from above. Other effective slides are similar to those used in Faktum.

But I can’t manage to remove the lock from the rolling cabinet; it already fails because I can’t even remove the drawers ;-(sounds like you can open the drawers. Could you take photos of the open drawers so we can see the sliding mechanism (from the side)?

The rolling containers from IKEA’s Effektiv series have small Phillips screws on the front left and right sides of the drawer inserts. By loosening these screws, you can remove the drawer insert by gently pulling it upwards. Depending on the model of the rolling container, the two top drawer inserts may need to be removed first. After that, you’ll quickly see two more screws securing the lock on the upper inside of the right container wall. If you remove these two screws as well, the lock can be easily pulled out towards the front using a standard slip-joint plier (not much force is needed once the screws are removed). Alternatively, the lock can be pried out with a narrow, flat screwdriver, but be careful not to damage the wood on the edge while doing so.
