I am planning two rows of practical wardrobes in a 12m2 (129 sq ft) walk-in closet, each row 3 m (10 ft) long. They will be open, without front doors. To improve ventilation for the clothes, I would like to leave out the backing panels / chipboards. Is this possible, or would it affect stability? Interior design: clothes rails and drawers. If possible, without front panels. Thanks for your help. Doris

Hello,

the stability of a freestanding cabinet will definitely be compromised. I also don’t see any advantage (let alone a necessity) for ventilating the cabinet. If it is open at the front, it is already sufficiently ventilated. Or is the ventilation of the wall meant?

However, the cabinet will not have stability issues if the individual units are screwed together and properly fixed to the wall as recommended.

The drawer fronts should definitely not be omitted. With glass fronts, you also have a good view inside.

Hello,
Thank you, that is already helpful.
I got the idea because the company "Cabinet" shows closet system installations sometimes without a back panel for Pax wardrobes. In their case, the background was a nice wallpaper.
The idea of a drawer without a front panel came from Ikea, where there is a drawer for the Pax wardrobe “without” a front.
I wanted to install several of these stacked with a larger spacing between them, for example 25-30 cm (10-12 inches), for shirts or sweatshirts.
From many years of experience, I find that clothes stored openly do not develop a musty smell, even after longer periods of non-use.
My friend’s clothes are stored inside a closed cabinet and they have a distinct odor.
Best regards, Doris
