Hello everyone,

This topic technically doesn’t belong here – but since kitchen cabinets are being used, I’m hoping for some luck.

We’ve realized that we lack sufficient storage space in our office – unfortunately, my wife still needs a lot of lever arch files for work (over 80 pieces). So we need more space.

Our study room is 3.82 m (12.5 ft) long, and the niche at the top is about 1.82 m (6 ft). We definitely want a closed system with doors – so options like Billy are out. Besta is also excluded because the quality seems to have declined significantly.

I’m attaching my plans below – one with the Metod corner cabinet and one without. My wife feels the corner cabinet might seem a bit bulky. What do you think? On the short side, a countertop will be installed on top of three 60 cm (24 inch) wide units, with double power outlets added on both sides. The printer and some other gadgets will be placed there. However, the niche is only 70 cm (28 inches) high. It would be better to have wall cabinets about 100 cm (39 inches) high as shown below. But since we have two height-adjustable desks on the long side, that wouldn’t work because when raised, my monitor would hit the wall cabinet.

On the left, I’ve planned five 60 cm (24 inch) wide Metod units at 80 cm (31 inches) height, then the corner cabinet, then two 40 cm (16 inch) units and one 30 cm (12 inch) unit. This looks the most balanced to me. Without the corner cabinet, I find the layout visually too busy. We also want to minimize the number of doors.

One more question specific to IKEA: Does IKEA offer bottom panels where LED lighting can be integrated directly? When I work at the desk and constantly see the screws from underneath, it drives me crazy. I saw something like this in green at the showroom over the weekend – but now I can’t find anything. Does anyone know? And do you actually use the side panels as bottom panels?

You can ignore the windows/openings on the right and bottom – there is just a wall including the TV on the right, and the windows are below. This L-shaped area is the actual available space.

Looking forward to your advice.

Here is a picture of the floor plan.

Hmm... so the floor plan in the second post and the floor plan view in the first post are not aligned the same way, but rotated 180°, with one oriented upwards and the other downwards?

All cabinets have a depth of 40cm (16 inches), right?

I would definitely prefer this option:

The other corner cabinet is quite obtrusive in the layout.

In general, make sure to secure everything properly, as folders filled with paper can be quite heavy.

Take a look at the Platsa series. I’m currently researching different storage systems, and one group praised how customizable and well-designed the individual components are. They are also said to hold files well. However, there are quite a few poor reviews on the Ikea website.

Prefer that. The other corner cabinet is quite intrusive in the view.

In general though... make sure to secure it well, because folders filled with paper are quite heavy.

Exactly... everything has a depth of 40cm (15.7 inches) and the floor plan is indeed rotated. Thanks for pointing that out. For fixing, the Metod system has a practical rail on which everything is hung.

We have Platsa in the bedroom – unfortunately, I don’t like the quality at all. It’s clearly worse than Metod. But thanks for the tip.
