LoisLaneHello dear IKEA fans,
I am currently struggling with the installation of my new METOD kitchen and hope you might have some advice for me. Overall, Iâm dealing with several issues:
1. The dishwasher problem when using third-party appliances (no warning about this during IKEAâs planning check)
2. The expanded dishwasher problem: it was planned to be positioned all the way to the right against the wall, with a 5 cm (2 inch) filler strip to the wall (again, no warning from IKEA)
3. The cooktop base cabinet was personally rearranged by the IKEA advisor to have one large and two small drawers â but with this layout, the heat shield cannot be installed â so I had to exchange the two small drawers for another large drawer...
4. The built-in refrigerator door doesnât close properly, though IKEA is not responsible for this one, fortunately.
So, Iâve shared all my frustrations and I hope you might have advice specifically for the fourth problem â hopefully IKEA will resolve problems 1 to 3 quicklyâŠ. I installed a 122 cm (48 inch) tall built-in refrigerator with a fixed door from Siemens into the 140 cm (55 inch) cabinet (using the mounting materials supplied with the refrigerator). There was also a spacer provided, which I installed as well. Everything fits exactlyâIâve checked this probably 4,000 times, also using a level to make sure everything is perfectly straight. But unfortunately, the door doesnât close properly â meaning the seal doesnât meet tightly; instead, the cabinet front meets the carcass. Could there also be compatibility issues with the refrigerator like there are with the dishwasher? Or should I, contrary to the manufacturerâs instructions, reduce the spacing during installation?
I hope someone has some advice before I get gray hair
Many thanks in advance
Lois
PS: If anyone has experience with the BehjĂ€lplig hinge on a SIEMENS appliance, I would appreciate any feedback. The hinge is currently unavailable, so I canât try it myself⊠and neither IKEA nor SIEMENS can provide any information on this.

You have no other choice but to pull the refrigerator forward if it is placed too far back. Check the use of the spacer carefully once again. There might also be a video about it on YouTube.

Hello Lois!
Unfortunately, I canât offer any solutions to your problems... but perhaps you could help me avoid experiencing the same issues.
What exactly is the problem with the dishwasher? What is incompatible? I also plan to combine an IKEA kitchen with third-party appliances. What have you (painfully) discovered about this topic so far? Where did you find information about this issue?
Many thanks and best regards, and I hope you manage to make progress with the refrigerator installation soon, as this situation isnât sustainable in the long run.
