Hello everyone, I am currently planning our new kitchen with Ikea Metod kitchen units and wanted to focus specifically on the planning and installation of corner solutions. My main concern is how to make the most of the corner space without losing storage capacity or making the corner cabinets hard to access. I am particularly interested in proven strategies for integrating corner cabinets, including carousel turntables or pull-outs, and how to best achieve clean transitions of the countertop at such corners. I understand that the choice of fittings and the exact spacing between the elements are crucial – are there any practical tips regarding measurements or the order of assembly? I am also curious whether certain corner solutions in the Ikea Metod range work better than others. I look forward to experiences that cover everything from initial planning to finished setups – preferably with advice on avoiding mistakes during assembly!

Hello Keoko42, your concern is very understandable, especially regarding the optimal use of the corner in Ikea Metod kitchen units. I have personally planned and installed a Metod kitchen with a corner solution, so here are some tips for you:

- Corner Cabinets: The rotating carousel type is common at Ikea and works well if the cabinet widths are chosen correctly. Advantage: Better visibility and slightly less storage space loss compared to traditional corner pull-outs.
- Work with precise measurements, especially the tolerances between the cabinet and countertop must be accurate to avoid gaps.
- Installing in the corner often requires fixing the cabinets individually and leveling them carefully before adjusting the countertop.

Many people plan the corner too tightly and then realize that it’s difficult to access all areas while cooking. I also recommend using Ikea’s Metod planning software in advance, where you can simulate corner solutions.
If you have specific details about your kitchen, I can help with individual steps!

Planning corner solutions optimally means: taking precise measurements, especially checking the angle tolerance of the corner. Lazy Susans are space-saving. During installation: position corner cabinets first, then adjust them to each other. Cut the countertop only after the cabinets have been installed.

For optimal planning of corner solutions with Ikea Metod kitchen units, I recommend a systematic approach including details on installation and technical aspects:

1. Measurement: Check the room angle carefully, as not every corner is exactly 90 degrees. If there are deviations, you may need to adjust the cabinet positions slightly.
2. Selection of the corner cabinet: Metod offers carousel cabinets and LeMans pull-outs. For the carousel, pay attention to the maximum load capacity of the shelves and plan for the door opening angles.
3. Installation: Position corner cabinets separately first, level them with a spirit level, then fasten them to the side walls. Corner connectors are important – they must fit precisely; otherwise, gaps between cabinets can occur.
4. Countertop: It is recommended to cut the countertop only after the base cabinets are fully installed. Plan for a countertop connector in the corner to compensate for any wall irregularities.
5. Storage and functionality: Less frequently used appliances or supplies are ideal for corner cabinets, while items used often should be more easily accessible.

Your exact measurements and wall-side conditions (e.g., radiators, power outlets) can further influence the choice of corner solution. What is the exact description of your room angle?

One more question: What type of countertop have you planned? Some materials allow less flexibility when cutting.

How exactly is your room angle described?

That’s a good point, TEBILO. My corner is exactly 90 degrees since the wall is straight and newly plastered. Still, I'll double-check it carefully with a protractor.

Installing cabinets in the corner often requires securing each cabinet individually and leveling them precisely before fitting the countertop.

I have been thinking about that as well. I will make sure to align the cabinets individually during assembly.

I’m planning to use a solid granite countertop, which makes cutting a bit challenging. But I believe such a high-quality slab is the most stable solution for the corner.

Thanks for the tips so far! I’m curious if anyone else has experience with granite countertops and corner solutions in the Metod system.

Granite slabs are very sturdy, but you should pay attention to the joint at corners. Ideally, the countertop should be fabricated separately at the corner and joined using a connector. Keep in mind that granite does not flex, so precision to the millimeter is crucial.
