Hello everyone,

I am currently planning to install an IKEA METOD kitchen unit in a room with a sloped ceiling. My challenge is to fit and secure the kitchen as precisely and stably as possible under the slope, because the ceiling height varies significantly and is not consistent. I have considered various adjustments, such as shortening the sides of the upper cabinets or using special mounts for the kickboards and base cabinets.

Does anyone have experience or tips on how to best adapt the METOD carcasses and fronts to sloped ceilings without compromising stability? How have you handled mounting to walls with an angled surface?

I am also interested in proven methods for measuring, cutting to size, or retrofitting, for example with angle brackets or reinforcements, that help ensure a durable and secure installation.

I look forward to your feedback!

Hello fu_kla1,

Regarding your question: For precise and stable installation of METOD kitchen units on sloped ceilings, I recommend a multi-step approach:

- Measurement: First, measure the exact height under the slope at several points. Use a spirit level and a protractor to accurately determine the angle.
- Adjusting the carcasses: With METOD, you can usually modify the wall cabinets by trimming the side panels to the required height or adjusting multiple cabinets differently so that together they follow the slope. Use stable jigsaws or circular saws with guides.
- Wall mounting: Since the wall is uneven, use adjustable brackets or attach wooden battens that you level horizontally. You can securely fix the METOD cabinet hangers onto these.
- Baseboards and lower cabinets: Visually, you can shorten the fronts or use suitable decorative moldings. For stability, ensure the carcasses stand flat and even on the floor. On uneven floors, adjustable feet are advisable.
- Reinforcements: For additional stability, metal angle brackets installed inside the corners of the carcasses can be useful.

I have had good experiences with this, especially the combination of precise measuring and leveling strips against the wall.

If you have exact measurements, I can provide more specific advice.

Additionally, a few brief tips:

- If you need to cut fronts, use quality tools to ensure clean edges.
- You can protect adhesive cabinet edges with edge banding for a neat finish.
- Important: Cabinets must always be securely mounted to a stable substructure.

Hello everyone,

I would like to add some technical details that are often overlooked and can cause issues with METOD kitchen units under sloping roofs:

1. Preparation and Planning:
- Create precise cut lists for the individual carcasses based on the heights you measure directly below the slope.
- Consider not only the height but also the angle of inclination to ensure the cabinets fit flush and without gaps.

2. Trimming Carcasses:
- The side panels of the carcasses can be cleanly trimmed using a guide saw or circular saw to fit the sloped ceiling.
- Alternatively, it is possible to slightly bevel the top of the carcass, although this makes assembly more complex.

3. Wall Fixing:
- Since sloping roofs usually have different substrates (rafters, drywall, wooden battens), it is advisable to install a sturdy substructure beforehand.
- Use adjustable hanging brackets designed for METOD that can be individually adapted.
- You can compensate for unevenness with spacer blocks or wooden strips.

4. Load Distribution:
- Make sure the load of the wall cabinets is spread across at least two points per cabinet.
- Reinforce the connection points additionally with angle profiles or metal plates to prevent sagging.

5. Toe Kicks and Base Cabinets:
- Use height-adjustable feet to compensate for uneven floors.
- For very low back panels near the slope, stable back panels and possibly additional reinforcements are important.

Finally, a question for you: How long are the kitchen runs to be installed, and what materials make up your sloping roof? Are there any exposed beams in the way? Then I can provide better tips for integration.

I hope these details help you further.

Hello fu_kla1,

I wanted to share some practical advice since I installed a METOD kitchen under a sloped ceiling myself.

First of all: precise measuring is essential. It’s best to use a laser distance meter to accurately capture multiple points. For stability, I added extra wooden battens under the slope, which were screwed to the wall and then served as support for the upper cabinets.

Regarding the cabinets, you can miter the side panels if the slope is particularly steep; otherwise, a straight cut with adjustments using trim strips is sufficient. When it comes to fixing, the quality of anchors and screws is important – cavity wall anchors are recommended for drywall, while standard heavy-duty anchors work well for solid masonry.

If you plan the kitchen in several sections, be sure to repeatedly check the exact heights before installation, as small differences can add up due to the slope.

A small tip: METOD cabinets have a fairly high installation tolerance, so take advantage of this and align all the carcasses together before attaching the fronts.

Good luck, and feel free to ask if you have any further questions!
