Hello everyone, I am planning to cut my IKEA Metod kitchen countertops myself and then seal them, as this way I want to save money and tailor the result exactly to my needs. However, I am wondering what the best way to cut the countertops is, especially regarding the necessary tools, the correct technique, and the safety measures to consider. I am also interested in how to professionally seal the cut edges afterwards to prevent moisture from penetrating and to ensure the countertop remains durable. Does anyone have practical experience or tips on how to carry out these steps easily and successfully? Thanks in advance!

For sealing, I recommend applying with a good foam or microfiber brush. That is correct. Additionally: be sure to use product-specific cleaners to remove dust and grease before painting. Vacuuming the work surface during the process is also advisable to minimize contamination.
I also recommend testing a small sample area on a scrap piece before the first application to observe the paint’s behavior and practice the application technique.

Are there any tips, especially regarding subcontracted tools or drying conditions?Yes, I can add that using a dust trap (for example, a slightly damp cloth on the floor) helps to capture dust in the air. Additionally, I slightly sped up the drying time with a small fan heater, but only from a distance to prevent the paint from drying too quickly and cracking.
Great, thanks for all the detailed tips and your time! This makes my decision easier, and I feel better prepared. I will follow the recommendations and proceed step by step to achieve the best possible results. If you have any specific advice on the care or warranty claims for the Metod panels after personal modification, I would be glad to hear about it.
