Hello everyone, I am currently planning to install an Ikea Metod kitchen on my concrete walls and am looking for secure and durable methods to reliably mount the upper kitchen cabinets. My concrete walls are quite old and slightly uneven, and I want to avoid the cabinets falling or coming loose later on. Which suitable anchors and screws work best for concrete, and what general considerations should I keep in mind when attaching the cabinets? Are there any specific recommendations for pre-drilling or tips to increase stability? I am very much looking forward to your experiences and advice!
Thank you for the recommendations so far! I have one more question: What is the best way to deal with the fact that my wall is actually quite uneven in some spots? Should I use some kind of leveling base before installation, or is it better to adjust the cabinets directly to the wall? I have seen that Ikea Metod cabinets have adjustable feet for height, but what about the wall side?
An uneven wall definitely requires proper preparation. I recommend:
- Leveling out irregularities using thin wooden or plastic shims, so that the cabinets sit flush against the wall.
- Avoid compensating only with adjustable feet at the base, since the cabinets need to be securely fastened to the wall.
- For significant unevenness, consider installing a substructure made of battens and attaching the Metod rails to it.
This will help you avoid issues with unstable cabinets. It is important to have a stable, even surface on the wall.

Great thread! I once had a similar installation and can only recommend: Don’t be afraid to drill into concrete! Use a hammer drill bit, drill cleanly, and the anchors will hold perfectly!
At the time, I brought the right type of anchors that grip well in concrete. The Metod cabinets have been securely in place for years without any issues.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask – I’m happy to help! 🙂

How do I best deal with the fact that my wall is actually quite uneven in some spots? Use washers or suitable spacers. Alternatively, level out uneven areas with filler before installation.
Just as an additional note: Always install screws using a torque wrench, not too tight, to avoid cracking the concrete. And if you are unsure, test carefully first.
I have also had good experiences with special metal plates behind the wall fixture to distribute the load even better.
