I am currently planning to install my Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets on a concrete wall and am looking for reliable methods to ensure a safe and lasting mounting. My concrete wall is solid, but I am unsure which anchors and screws are best suited, considering the weight of the cabinets should not be underestimated. I am also interested in the best approach to avoid cracks in the concrete while achieving sufficient load-bearing capacity. Has anyone had experience fixing Metod kitchen cabinets to concrete walls and can provide specific product or technique recommendations? It would also be helpful if someone could explain the differences in load capacity between various types of anchors. Thank you in advance!

For concrete walls, I recommend heavy-duty anchors or metal wall plugs. Plastic wall plugs are usually not strong enough for kitchen cabinets. Use a drill bit with the appropriate diameter, insert the wall plug deep enough, and then secure it with suitable screws.

I usually use chemical injection anchors for kitchen installations on concrete. They provide the highest load capacity and are secure in the long term. It is important that the drill hole is clean and free of dust before insertion.

Could you please explain in more detail how this works and which product is best suited for Ikea Metod? Are there any other pitfalls or mistakes to avoid? So far, I have only planned to use standard wall plugs, but I am concerned they may not hold securely enough.

Chemical anchors consist of a two-component mortar that hardens inside the drilled hole after injection. This creates an exceptionally strong connection between the anchor and the concrete. For Metod kitchen furniture, I recommend using systems that have been structurally tested, such as Hilti HIT-HY 200 or similar. Standard plastic anchors are often unsuitable because they can deform or loosen under load over time. Important points: - Thoroughly clean the drilled hole (remove dust) - Observe the correct hole depth for full anchoring - Match the anchor length to the frame depth Damage to the concrete (such as cracking) can be avoided by not using an excessively large hole diameter and selecting the appropriate anchor. The drill should have a good hammer drill mode when working with very hard concrete.

That sounds quite complex at first, but it definitely has a professional touch, doesn’t it? 😄 For my Metod kitchen, I simply used heavy-duty anchors from Fischer – they provide solid support, and everything is still holding firmly after 2 years. The key really is a clean drilled hole; otherwise, even the best anchor won’t work.
