Hello everyone,
I am currently planning the installation of a kitchen island using the Ikea Metod system and facing some challenges. Since different components are involved—cabinets, countertops, and anchoring—I want to optimize the assembly to ensure everything is stable, level, and practical.
Specifically, I am interested in:
- What is the most efficient sequence and approach for assembling a kitchen island?
- How can tolerances in floors or slightly uneven walls be best compensated for?
- Are there proven tips for securing the island without compromising seating or workspace comfort later on?
I have basic experience with furniture assembly, but given the complexity of kitchen islands, I would greatly appreciate practical experience or recommendations on useful tools and methods.
Looking forward to your advice and suggestions!

- The modules are designed for wall mounting, which means that with an island, the back or side panels often cannot be fixed. Therefore, the connections between the modules are crucial.
- Corner brackets and the Metod connection fittings should be used consistently to securely join all the modules.
- Optionally, metal reinforcements or sturdy wooden cross braces can be installed in the base area. This increases the torsional rigidity of the island.
- For the countertop, it is advisable to choose a material that distributes loads effectively and compresses the modules downward.
- Fixing the island to the floor is generally not intended, but special floor clamps or mounting brackets can be used to secure the island to tile or hardwood flooring if permitted.
- Careful preparation is important to ensure dimensional accuracy during assembly.
Together, these points provide practical recommendations for stable kitchen islands with Metod.

Are there any special reinforcements or construction techniques that can be used in addition to the standard modular system?I support this question and would like to add that with my first island, I was initially unsure and experienced some wobbling. My advice is to confidently ask professionals for guidance and don’t hesitate to add extra reinforcements. In hindsight, I added metal brackets to the base profiles, which significantly improved stability.
It simply feels more reassuring when everything is firmly secured. This is especially important if there are children around or a lot of activity in the kitchen.
Hello everyone,
I would like to add that when assembling a kitchen island with Ikea Metod, it can be very helpful to create a drawing or an assembly overview of the individual modules beforehand. This provides a clear overview of the necessary fixing points and makes the work easier.
I also recommend not fully screwing down the countertop right away. Only after the modules are securely connected and aligned should the countertop screws be installed, to avoid warping or pressure marks.
In summary, I would suggest:
- Leveling the floor before assembly
- Assembling and adjusting the modules individually
- Connecting the modules together
- Adding reinforcements with brackets/profiles
- Installing the countertop last
This is how I have had good experiences so far.
I’m happy to provide more detailed steps if needed.

Take a moment to carefully check all the connections again. Sometimes it’s just one small hook or screw – and that can throw the whole island out of balance!
You’ve got this!! 😄
