Hello everyone, I am currently planning a new kitchen project using the IKEA Metod base cabinet system and am looking for good ideas on how to efficiently optimize storage space inside the base cabinets with shelving systems. I am especially interested in how to best use the available depth and height to store various kitchen utensils such as pots, pans, storage containers, or smaller appliances without everything getting cluttered or difficult to access. Which shelves, dividers, or organizational aids do you recommend that work well with the Metod cabinets and also provide good visibility and easy accessibility? Tips on clever use of built-in corners or pull-out drawers are also welcome. Looking forward to your experiences and suggestions!

This is a crucial point. My recommendation is to use adjustable shelves to make the most of the interior space. IKEA Metod also offers special pull-outs that vary depending on the cabinet width and are ideal for pots and pans. For depth, I additionally suggest shallow drawers, which are especially good for grouping smaller items or supplies.

It is also helpful to use removable dividers or organizing boxes to create a clear structure. This helps prevent different kitchen tools from getting mixed up. Corner cabinets, for example, can be efficiently accessed with carousel solutions, allowing full use of the storage space without having to reach deep inside.

I would add that a sensible combination of drawers at different heights can create a significant optimization. The shelving systems inside the Metod base cabinets should be modular and adjustable so that, with spacing between the levels, the storage space is segmented as efficiently as possible.

Special attention should also be given to the optimal use of space when planning drawers in wider cabinets: double drawers or multi-tiered shelves prevent wasted space caused by a lack of structure. Using internal drawers in combination with shallow drawers maximizes visibility.

It is advisable to use passive organizational elements that function without complex mechanisms or retrofitting and remain stable over time. The IKEA proprietary accessories are well aligned with the Metod system here and also facilitate later adjustment of the configuration.

I can confirm: pull-out drawers with adjustable dividers provide great organization in base cabinets. A sturdy shelving unit with three levels is excellent for pots, allowing easy access to everything. Corner cabinets – carousel units are truly the best solution there.

The topic of optimizing storage space in Metod base cabinets is something I’m also thinking about, as I’m about to redesign my kitchen myself, and I know how frustrating it can be when things get too cluttered. It’s important for me not to rely solely on fixed shelves but to stay flexible in case storage needs change.

That’s true, especially with removable boxes you can quickly adjust the storage space. I once had a Metod system where I initially didn’t have enough pull-out drawers, which was particularly inconvenient for larger pans. Adding extra drawers made a big difference.

I often wonder whether it’s worth investing in custom-cut shelves or third-party systems that might offer even better space utilization, or if it’s better to stick solely with IKEA’s own accessories. Does anyone have experience with this?

From my perspective, a combination makes sense. The IKEA Metod system is clearly designed for easy assembly and interchangeability, which is a big advantage. For very specific needs, such as unusually large pots or appliances, a third-party system with tailored modularity can provide additional options.

The investment is worthwhile if you want long-term planning security. It’s important to know the exact measurements of the Metod cabinet to avoid accessories not fitting and storage space being used inefficiently.

In everyday use, height-adjustable shelves and flexible interior drawers from IKEA often prove sufficient when you maintain systematic organization.
