Good morning everyone, I have a problem with squeaky drawers in my IKEA Metod kitchen unit, which has become quite annoying. These are full-extension drawers with metal sides that make an unpleasant squeaking noise every time they are opened or closed. The construction itself seems solid, but apparently there is a friction point somewhere causing this noise. Before I start removing parts unnecessarily or even fully dismantling the drawers, I wanted to ask if anyone has had similar experiences with IKEA Metod drawers and what repair or maintenance steps are recommended to fix this squeaking? Are there specific lubricants that work well, or is the issue more mechanical in nature (e.g., guide rails, rollers, or tracks)? I look forward to concrete tips and instructions, as this requires a bit of technical understanding on my part. Thanks in advance!

To be honest, I often find the whole IKEA click and slide system unnecessarily complicated. When METOD drawers squeak, it’s usually because cheap sprays are being used that just sit around. Why not simply lubricate properly with lithium-based grease? Yes, it attracts dust, but in a kitchen that’s mostly irrelevant since you clean regularly anyway. Besides, the metal parts aren’t designed for dry silicone grease, but for genuine lubrication methods. This long-lasting lubrication really stops the squeaking over time. Of course, this is a bold statement, but I can guarantee that dry silicone spray is often only a short-term fix.

I really appreciate how everyone here is so helpful! I completely understand how annoying a squeaking noise can be, especially in a kitchen you use almost every day. I’ve been struggling for a while with squeaky drawers in my METOD kitchen and felt quite helpless. But thanks to the tips shared here, I finally managed to fix it – the advice on proper cleaning and applying silicone spray sparingly was invaluable. Sometimes a small detail can make such a big difference. I also think it’s important not to use too much grease or oil – I did that at first and ended up with even more trouble from stains. Thanks to everyone here who shares their experience and explains tips so clearly!
