The main challenge for me is integrating space-saving sliding doors properly without losing storage capacity or compromising the stability of the furniture.

For sliding doors in the Metod system, I always use the flat tracks from IKEA, which are mounted directly on the top edge of the cabinet side. Make sure that the door panels are not too heavy, otherwise they might get stuck.

A small tip: The tracks should be installed perfectly level, otherwise the door will catch.

Please note that the Metod system was not specifically designed for sliding doors, so adjustments are often necessary. Important points to consider:

- Correctly select the door height, taking into account the rail system (standard dimensions and travel paths).
- Preferably use lightweight materials for the door panels to avoid overloading the running tracks.
- The running rails must be aligned exactly parallel and horizontal to ensure smooth operation.
- Make sure that side guides are installed to prevent the doors from jamming.

For installation, a precise measurement beforehand and, if necessary, prototyping with a single door is recommended before ordering the entire cabinet.

This is precisely the issue I see critically. IKEA should have long since offered dedicated sliding door systems for Metod. Instead, people have to improvise and make modifications.

Who wants to constantly fiddle with their cabinets because the doors don’t run smoothly or the tracks don’t fit? In my opinion, this is a clear weakness in the range. It’s better to opt for other solutions or at least plan custom modifications carefully.

I understand your frustration, especially when you are hoping for a finished, practical solution but still need to tinker with it. I myself debated this back and forth several times with my small apartment for exactly that reason.

What helped me was not being discouraged by striving for perfection, but instead testing step by step and repeatedly adjusting the doors.

That’s exactly what made the difference for me. The sliding doors now operate smoothly, and I have had good experiences even in small spaces. Of course, there were some initial problems, but the feeling of gaining space this way motivated me to keep optimizing.
