Hello everyone,

I am currently installing a kitchen using the Ikea Metod system and am having trouble fastening the doors so that they close quietly and remain secure over time. While the standard Ikea hinges are practical, after a while the closing often becomes louder or the doors loosen.

Therefore, my question to the community: How do you attach your Metod doors to ensure quiet operation and long-lasting stability? Are there special techniques, additional dampers, or alternative hinges you would recommend? I am looking for a lasting solution, as I want the kitchen to require minimal maintenance.

Perhaps you can also provide advice on the best way to adjust the doors to reduce noise. I look forward to concrete tips and experiences!

Oh yes, I know that very well! My recommendation: definitely get the soft-close hinges from Ikea if you don’t have them yet. They’re great because they prevent slamming and close the doors quietly!

I also always use silicone pads on the inside corners of the doors. This further cushions the knocking sound when the door is fully closed.

It’s also very important to properly adjust the doors using the adjustment screws on the hinges – this is crucial to reduce noise! Don’t get discouraged, it can be done! Good luck 😊

Make sure to get the soft-close hinges from Ikea

Soft-close hinges are indeed the technically best solution for quiet and durable door closing with Ikea Metod cabinets. Additionally, the following measures can help improve lifespan and functionality:

- Cleaning and occasional lubrication of the hinges with silicone-based lubricant
- Checking and readjusting the hinges to ensure optimal alignment
- Using additional damping pads on the door edges can further reduce noise

The standard Ikea hinges are suitable for normal household use, but for heavy use, you might consider switching to high-quality alternatives from third-party suppliers, which often offer better durability and damping.

Overall, the combination of careful installation, regular maintenance, and soft-close technology provides the optimal solution for your issue.

I would like to add a brief step-by-step guide that has proven effective for installing Metod doors with quiet and durable fittings:

- Check and clean the hinges before installation
- Install soft-close hinges immediately; although more expensive, they are worth it
- Measure the door size precisely to avoid any overhang
- After fastening, initially secure the doors lightly, then adjust them accurately
- Attach silicone buffers or foam dampers to the inside edges of the doors (top and bottom) to prevent heat buildup and knocking noises
- Occasionally treat the hinges with a silicone-based spray (approximately every 12 months)

Common mistakes:
- Screwing the hinges too tightly or too loosely
- Not regularly inspecting hinges and door edges
- Using cheap no-name hinge versions

With this approach, I have been using my Metod doors quietly and securely for years, despite heavy use.

I completely agree. Additionally: make sure to align the door properly and always tighten the screws if you hear any creaking. Otherwise, a soft-close hinge plus silicone pads is all you need.
