Liswalenti24 Jun 2021 09:12Good morning everyone, I am currently facing the challenge of fitting the baseboards to my Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets. I have noticed that the method for attaching the baseboards varies significantly depending on the different types of flooring I have in my house: laminate in the living room, tiles in the kitchen, and parquet in the hallway.
My question is: What is the best and most secure way to attach the Ikea Metod baseboards for these different floor types to ensure both a stable fixation and a clean finish? Are there specific adapters, screws, or adhesive systems that work better for the various types of flooring?
I would appreciate any practical tips or advice on common issues!

For laminate flooring, simply use the supplied metal clips; these are screwed onto the cabinets and then hold the baseboard in place. For tiles, it is better to use construction adhesive since drilling can be difficult. Parquet flooring is similar to laminate; you can also use clips or double-sided tape if it is not subject to heavy load.

For laminate and hardwood flooring, the Ikea clips work really well – they’re quick to install and let you remove the baseboards if needed. It’s important to thoroughly clean the surfaces before attaching anything, otherwise nothing will stick! Good luck with your project, you’ve got this!

- Laminate flooring: Use the supplied metal mounting clips, as they are designed for standard installation. It is important to ensure a secure fit to guarantee a firm connection.
- Tiled flooring: Due to the difficulty of drilling into tiles, I suggest using a high-quality mounting adhesive. The floor must be thoroughly degreased and cleaned beforehand to maximize adhesion.
- Parquet flooring: Both clips and strong double-sided tape are possible. The adhesive method is more suitable for areas with light stress.
Additionally, make sure the baseboards are aligned precisely to avoid tension and deformation. The Ikea assembly instructions generally call for mounting clips, but these should be replaced with adhesive alternatives on flooring where drilling is not possible.

Hey, this is a great project! I had really good results with the Ikea baseboards and can only recommend dry-fitting each baseboard before installation. This is especially important with parquet and laminate flooring to ensure nothing gets stuck or sits unevenly. By the way, if you plan to glue the baseboards on tiles, make sure to use an adhesive that is suitable for wet areas; otherwise, you might run into problems later on! You’ll do great, it will look fantastic!
