Hello everyone,
I have been using the IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets with glass fronts in my new kitchen for some time now. My question is about maintenance: I would like to know how to clean these glass fronts without scratching them or causing any dullness or damage. When I use regular all-purpose cleaners, I often feel like the glass becomes slightly dull or that small scratches might appear after several uses. Does anyone have tried-and-true methods or cleaning products that can be used safely to keep the glass fronts clean while protecting the surface? I would appreciate any tips on cleaning tools, techniques, or suitable substances.

What do you think about glass cleaners with ammonia or vinegar water?Cleaners containing ammonia are much stronger and can damage surfaces if used frequently. Vinegar water is milder but not ideal for aluminum frames either. It’s better to use pH-neutral glass cleaners or simply water and a microfiber cloth.
Additionally, I would like to mention that the glass fronts of the Metod series are made of real glass. Therefore, they are generally durable but not immune to microabrasive damage. This means that
- harsh or abrasive cleaning agents
- scouring pads
- coarse woven cloths
should be avoided.
Furthermore, regularly used vinegar water can potentially corrode or dull the aluminum profiles, so it is recommended to clean the glass panes separately with mild cleaning agents and minimize moisture contact with the frames.
