Hello everyone,

I have been using the IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets with glass fronts in my new kitchen for some time now. My question is about maintenance: I would like to know how to clean these glass fronts without scratching them or causing any dullness or damage. When I use regular all-purpose cleaners, I often feel like the glass becomes slightly dull or that small scratches might appear after several uses. Does anyone have tried-and-true methods or cleaning products that can be used safely to keep the glass fronts clean while protecting the surface? I would appreciate any tips on cleaning tools, techniques, or suitable substances.

How do you keep your Metod glass fronts clean and scratch-free?

Use a microfiber cloth and lukewarm water. Do not use abrasive cleaners or rough sponges; this is the most important point.

For scratch-free cleaning of the IKEA Metod glass fronts, I recommend the following procedure:

- Use only a soft, lint-free microfiber cloth.
- Dampen the cloth with clear tap water or a mildly diluted alcohol-based glass cleaner.
- Avoid abrasive cleaning agents, scouring pads, or harsh chemical cleaners, as these can damage the surface.
- Gently wipe the glass fronts in circular motions.

Additionally, it is helpful to polish the glass fronts after cleaning with a dry microfiber cloth to prevent streaks. This keeps the surface clear and free of micro-scratches.

Great question! I always use only very mild products, and the results are really excellent! If you keep the fronts clean, remember to regularly wipe them down with a lightly dampened microfiber cloth. This keeps them shiny and scratch-free! Stick with it; it definitely pays off! 🙂

Thank you, that is really helpful! What do you think about glass cleaners containing ammonia or vinegar solutions? Could using vinegar solutions cause any long-term damage to the glass or the surrounding frames? The Metod fronts usually have aluminum frames, and I want to avoid risking rust or discoloration from cleaning.

I used to try vinegar water as well, but I felt that it eventually caused slight discoloration on my aluminum frame. Since then, I prefer to use a mild glass cleaner without ammonia. This feels safer to me, and the glass fronts still look great even after months.

In general, I think it’s important to handle such materials carefully and avoid harsh chemicals. Maybe you could test the vinegar water first on an inconspicuous corner?
