Dear all,
I’m reaching out to this forum as someone who trusts the Ikea concept and quality, but I have a problem and an idea for a solution.
When assembling my kitchen with a cabinet height of 220 cm (86.6 inches), the holes required for mounting the Metod hanging rail align exactly with the position of a horizontal high-voltage electrical cable.
To ensure there is no risk of a short circuit, I need a setup with a clearly different hole height.
Since the mounting edge of the Metod rail has a symmetric rebate both above and below, I thought about mounting the rail inverted—meaning the round holes would be below rather than above the mounting edge.
Because mounting it this way adds bending moments in addition to the tensile forces, depending on the distance of the holes from the mounting edge, I am inclined to drill new holes closer to the edge in the rail.
I would appreciate your suggestions or any concerns regarding this idea.
Best regards

when it comes to the base cabinets:
simply do not use a mounting rail; instead, fix them in the classic way with four legs per base cabinet, install the brackets 5cm (2 inches) lower, and drill through the hard fiberboard behind.
when it comes to the wall cabinets:
mount them at a different height, for example 5cm (2 inches) higher or lower.

IKEA-Experte8 Nov 2016 09:04When wall cabinets connect to a tall cabinet, it becomes difficult to hang them higher or lower. I share your thoughts on mounting the rail upside down.

robi_aus_ffm8 Nov 2016 12:38If you install the rail 5cm (2 inches) or 10cm (4 inches) lower, and also attach the metal brackets on the cabinets 5cm (2 inches) or 10cm (4 inches) lower accordingly, it should fit.
For this, you would only need to drill a few additional holes in the cabinet carcass... and, of course, remove a few centimeters (inches) from the back panel.
