Hello dear forum members,

I have several Billy shelves that I would like to place in the hallway and use as a shoe cabinet. For this, I want to install doors.

The Billy doors cost around 50 euros each, which I find quite expensive. They are rarely available second-hand, which is understandable at those prices. 🙂

My idea was whether the 40cm (16 inches) Metod kitchen cabinet doors might also fit the Billy shelves. The HÄGGEBY model costs only 13 euros (200cm) (79 inches). Has anyone tried this before? I’m not sure if the hinge cup drilling matches or if I would need to drill completely new holes for the hinges.

The Billy doors are 192cm (75.6 inches) high, while the Metod doors come in 100cm (39.4 inches) and 200cm (79 inches) sizes. With the larger door, it would be 8cm (3 inches) taller, which might cover the Billy plinth. Or would the door then scrape the floor?

Looking forward to your ideas and suggestions. Thanks!
