Hello,

we want to get the Metod kitchen and plan and assemble it ourselves. We will buy everything in two weeks in France.

Now to the specific question: The base cabinets with feet are about 88cm (35 inches) high, but most dishwashers are only 81.5cm (32 inches) tall. Even IKEA France only offers this size. If I buy a dishwasher that is 81.5cm (32 inches) high, that means I would have to attach feet to it, and the front panel would be installed lower than intended.

We want to buy a dishwasher with timerLight technology, which projects the remaining time onto the floor below the dishwasher. This wouldn’t work anymore if the front panel is mounted lower than planned, right?

Am I missing something here?

Regards,
Daniel

Help… I just realized that I might have a problem with the dishwasher or with the space available. Unfortunately, all the walls here are uneven, with arches, etc., which makes it difficult to measure everything precisely in advance.

According to Ikea’s advice, I first assembled the wall cabinets and the tall cabinet. Now the base cabinets are in place, but without the dishwasher, as it hasn’t arrived yet. On the far right is the washing machine (which might be the issue — the exterior wall is not straight, at least not in the lower 88cm (35 inches)), then a 40cm (16 inch) base cabinet for the sink, the dishwasher, a 60cm (24 inch) base cabinet for the stove, a 20cm (8 inch) cabinet, and then the 60cm (24 inch) tall cabinet.

Everything fits well at the top; the wall cabinets are already connected to the tall cabinet. At the bottom, I’m missing 1cm (0.4 inch) in the gap where the dishwasher should go.

My question is: Is the dishwasher really 59.6cm (23.5 inches) wide, or is there some additional clearance built in? I assume that the 4mm (0.16 inch) difference to the standard 60cm (24 inch) width is supposed to allow for some clearance.

What should I do now? Should I install a 1cm (0.4 inch) filler piece between the wall cabinet and the base cabinet and leave a 1cm (0.4 inch) gap between the washing machine and the wall? There might still be 1cm (0.4 inch) of space on the left side of the tall cabinet.

Are the wall cabinets on the right installed directly against the wall without a filler strip?

I don’t understand.

The wall cabinets should be installed flush above the base cabinets, meaning they should align immediately next to the tall cabinet.
